Mission & Vision

Mission

To transform creative potential into real career pathways in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom — through world-class programming in the arts, agriculture, and building trades — while honoring Abenaki heritage and strengthening community.

Vision

A Northeast Kingdom where no one has to leave home to build a creative, meaningful, and sustainable life.

Core Principles

Hobbies Are Not Distractions. They Are Early Signals of Purpose.

Every career started as something someone did for free because they couldn’t stop. We take that thing — the guitar in the bedroom, the garden behind the trailer, the drawings in the notebook, the videos on the phone — and we build a bridge from passion to paycheck.

Place Matters

We are rooted in the Northeast Kingdom —

its landscape,

its people,

its Abenaki heritage,

its farming traditions,

its resilience,

and its wildness.

Everything we build grows from this soil.

Redemption Over Perfection

The most powerful art and the most meaningful careers come from people who’ve been knocked down and got back up.

We don’t require polished resumes.

We require honesty and hunger.

Community Ownership

This center belongs to Newport and the Northeast Kingdom. Not to a board. Not to a founder’s ego. Not to a grant. To the people who walk through the doors, fill the seats, tend the garden, and teach the classes.

Spiritual and Social Impact

We believe creative work is spiritual work.

When you help a young person discover their gift,

when you honor an elder’s story,

when you grow food that heals the land —

you are participating in something larger than yourself.

This center is a place where that work is

valued, supported, and sustained.
